Cos

Cos

Details

The type of lettuce that is commonly used in Caesar’s salad to give it that incomparable crunch and a tad of bitterness. It grows in a rather tall shape than other lettuces and is also known as romaine lettuce.

Cos is packed with nutritional goods like vitamin A and K, a good source of dietary fibre and minerals such as potassium and iron. Similar to every other type of lettuce it has a high water content and is very low in calories.

We mainly grow cos lettuce during the winter period in the Conway Flats.

Did you know that cos or romaine lettuce can also be cooked? Its crunchy leaves and robust core are ideal for charring, sautéing or made into soup.
